Why an agent cares
It was the first agentic-checkout protocol to reach real merchants, and it shows what happens when the consumer surface goes away. The specification survives as payment infrastructure rather than as something a site publishes.
Why we do not score it
Since spec 2026-04-17 a site can publish a discovery document at /.well-known/acp.json (the discovery RFC is still a proposal). A probe on 2026-10-05 found no merchant or platform serving one, so there is nothing yet to score.
Adoption
Early pilots. Named early adopters exist, behind flags or trials. Nothing has been independently measured yet.

OpenAI discontinued Instant Checkout in Mar 2026 after about five months; roughly 30 merchants ever went live (Forrester, Feb 2026).
